The Rationale of Reason

As the contrary of “real” I employ the word fictile, without any implication of intentional falsification, any more than its absence.

That object is Real of which whatever is true or is truly said, is so, whether you or I or any person or persons think that it is so, or not, – unless, indeed, the predicate in question (i.e. that which is said of the object,) be, of its very meaning, dependent upon what one thinks of it.

…one may start with the concept of a thing, a concept which can be actualized independently of anything else to which it should appertain. Such a thing in the language of philosophy is called a substance. This is in fact the proper meaning of that word which it was framed to express and what the chemists call a “substance” ought to be called a chemens (pl. chementia).
