William James Prize in American Philosophy
The Eastern Division of the American Philosophical Association invites submissions for the William James prize. This recognises the best paper in the area of American philosophy. For the purpose of this competition, American philosophy is to be construed broadly as including not only studies of the work of significant thinkers in the history of American philosophy but also creative extensions or applications of the ideas, methods, or results of traditional American philosophy to philosophical issues of current interest or lasting importance.
Applicants must have received their PhD within five years of the beginning of the calendar year in which the paper is submitted or be a graduate student, and be accepted for inclusion in the eastern division programme. They must be members of the organisation.
The prize is worth USD 300.
