Abstract:
This paper identifies the source of Peirce's hitherto unidentified quotations of the Latin half-line hoc loquor inde est as a citation from Persius's Satires, compares the original poetic context with Peirce's usage of the quote, and examines Peirce's use of it to express his ideas on cognition and semiosis as processes in the continuity of time.
